The Na Karmeli Education Centre was opened 20 September 2007 and is located in the historic downtown of Mladá Boleslav above the Jizera river valley. This unique integration of a modern building with a historic church and monastery offers multifunctional use for organizing cultural and social events. The spaces of lecture halls and atriums can be used to host concerts, theatrical performances, talk shows, or educational programs. The Church of St. Bonaventure provides a space for interactive exhibits, social gatherings, and musical productions. The adjacent lush terraces and the small and large front courtyards can be used for open air events. One particularly attractive locale is the monastery garden, where summer film screenings take place each year.
The roots of the historical section of the Education Centre reach as far back as the 13th century. The monastery and church served liturgical and educational purposes for seven centuries. In the 16th century, for example, one of the most important European centers of the Unity of Brethren was located here. The church acquired its Baroque form at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. Both structures owe their current state to reconstruction efforts carried out from 2005 to 2007. The new buildings of the Education Centre offer classrooms with modern equipment, meeting rooms, and two lecture halls that can be joined together into a large auditorium.
